a) No, not really. Or only a little. Comes of watching too much Fawlty Towers at an impressionable age.
b) She is Sam West's mother, and I am a Sam West fangirl and have been known to both slash characters he has played (mostly because he is in Hornblower) and make, um, highly appreciative comments about his many fine personal characteristics. Once during a comment thread about Irrational Fear Of Actors Reading Slash I commented, idly, 'you know, demographically speaking, it's more likely that their mothers would stumble on it...' and produced an APPALLED silence. Wherupon damned_colonial, who was in the room with me, said, in a pitch-perfect Sybil Fawltyyy imitation, "SLASHERS!?" and I nearly spilled both the half of my drink that was outside of me and the half that ... was not.
c) It's irrational because i) She is by all reports an extremely nice lady, and ii) I am quite sure she has enough good sense that even if she DID hypothetically read slash she wouldn't go within 100 km of Hornblower Fandom or anywhere else where she might encounter her kid's (extremely well-behaved, I assure you) fangirls in High Squee Mode.
2) "I see your fuzzy little ass around here again I'mma get me a WEE FURRY HAT!"
3) Reading it: Pirates of the Caribbean and sheer chance. "Oh, hey," I said. "Free smut, by interesting people. I like this!"
Writing it: Ian being sick for a year, thus causing me to be stressed out AND have a lot of time on my hands that I couldn't do anything really productive with, and damned_colonial's bad influence. Plus a lot of rum. :-)
4) Good question. Lately it appears to be 'motherfucking', but it's been that sort of month...
