Cock! (No, it's not what you think.)

A few years ago I tried to settle a word usage debate with a roommate by asking friends what they thought, but didn't have the occasion to ask that many friends and so never came to any definite conclusion. It's only just occurred to me that I now have available a much more efficient way of gathering opinions. Not that I'll ever be able to wave this in my ex-roommate's face as we don't seem to talk any more (this appears to have something to do with the fact that he owes me money, but we won't get into how I feel about that), but 'twill be useful for my own edification.

So, without further ado:

[Poll #442526]

Edit: Disregard the fact that it can also refer to a rooster or the angle of one's hat. Or a dildo. I'm just looking for penis-related applications here.

No "any rooster" option?

I selected "any penis" above. This is because "limp cock" isn't any kind of an oxymoron... it's not even confusing. (Compare "limp boner" or "flaccid erection", which are at least disorienting, if not oxymoronic in their own right.)

I think that the appropriateness of applying the word "cock" to flaccid penises depends on the circumstances, and is also subject to dialectical variation - in some places I suspect, the word "cock" refers to any penis.

My own usage, and that I've noticed around me, tends to limit "cock" to sexual contexts, though I suppose that if the discussion is of a sexual encounter where the penis in question was flaccid for some part of the encounter, it might still be properly referred to as a cock.

*snort* That's because you don't have one!

(Ok, sorry, tasteless and stupid but I couldn't resist.)

my first thought was rooster....

:-)

In some sexual contexts, it also applies to a dildo.

I said number 3. I'm glad you gave me that option. It's got a real stiff sound, like flicking something stiff. *cock* Yeah, they're cool.:D

Doesn't the word 'cock' primarily apply to a male chicken?
