Mechanical automata (no, I don't mean you)

Dear intarwebs,

My car's emissions system needs fixing so it'll pass smog, and there's also an oil leak that could stand to be repaired. Does anyone know a mechanic somewhere in the East Bay (or, in a pinch, on the peninsula) whom they'd particularly recommend for such work? Bonus points if they're open on weekends.

Chris V recommended his mechanic to me:

My mechanic's named Panico. He's at 352-3530. I recommend him extremely
highly, and the shop is only about four blocks from San Leandro BART. He
does only take cash (no checks even), so you have to remember to hit the
cash machine before retrieving your vehicle.

(I took my car there once and he was great. I need to take mine in again. For some reason I'm horrible about doing this sort of thing - I think I'm intimidated by calling the mechanic.)

If it's a Honda, Berkeley Minicar, Dwight & San Pablo.

Depends on the type of car you have.

Ah. No clue. I have a fantastic mechanic, but he only works on a couple of specific types of Japanese cars. :(

theres a guy named Peter that I think works out of Berkeley that we've used to good success. I think [livejournal.com profile] fuzzydragon still has his number. Let me know if you want it.

There's also a Big O nearer us, Washington/Lewelling. I've never had car work done there. Big O in Fremont (Fremont Bl. near Country Way) is amazing, great guys, good work, totally trustworthy.

exactly what i found with the alameda big o! i had almost all my regular maintainance work done there after they helped me with a flat tire and didn't charge me anything!
