Abuse of past participles
Nov. 2nd, 2009 04:01 pmOkay, this is definitely an example of some interesting linguistical...thing, but I'm not sure exactly what. Any linguistics geeks want to help me put a name to this?
1a. Never put cooked fat down the garbage disposal.
1b. Never put fat that has been cooked down the garbage disposal.
2a. Never put uncooked fat down the garbage disposal.
*2b. Never put fat that has been uncooked down the garbage disposal.
Guess which of the above sentences was in the tip sheet we just got from the homeowners' association....
