Writer's Block: Too scary!!

Well, I used to be deathly afraid of black widows, which isn't too silly except that there really weren't any where I grew up, so it was more that I was irrationally afraid of the possibility of encountering them.
I also spent a couple of years worrying that the entire earth would, without warning, be sucked into a black hole. This was after I'd learned that black holes are OMG INVISIBLE, from a children's science book which failed to make it clear that a) this doesn't mean they are undetectable and b) they don't exactly drift around the galaxy willy-nilly in any case.
And then there was my fear of moths, which actually lasted well past my childhood. Not sure exactly what I was afraid of about them, except that I really didn't like the idea of touching them and their erratic motion always made me think I wouldn't be able to dodge them if they decided to fly right at me. Oddly, it was tabletop roleplaying that got me over that fear; I played a character who I decided should have a very large moth for a familiar (it seemed to fit the character), and after being friends for a while with a fictional moth, I discovered I'd somehow lost my fear of real ones.
