Galluping along

Apparently I'm starting to get used to the idea that a fair number of the idle questions I've had rattling around in my head for years can be answered with LJ polls. (Well, answered to a first approximation anyway, which is more than enough given how much real effort I'm willing to put in.) Now I just have to try and remember all of them before my paid time runs out.

This one's anonymous (well, as anonymous as it gets) because it's slightly more personal than the last one--unlikely as it is that my usual audience would care about that. And I vigorously deny that all of my burning questions have a common theme. It's just that the more interesting ones do.

[Poll #446249]

Actually, my view wasn't terribly good...but I got the general idea, yes.

Nothing resembling words comes out of my mouth, but what does is generally at high volume.

[identity profile] vvvexation.livejournal.com 2005-03-01 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
*nod* I was more curious about verbality than volume. Wonder if I should specify that.

No, I think you made it pretty clear. I answered in terms of verbalizations, anyway.

Just an expression, generally. "Oh, whoa!" or more embarassingly, "Holy moly!" That kind of stuff comes from a different part of the brain than normal speech, though. My normal speech stuff just shuts waaay off.

One of the reasons I was always sort of dubious about sex magick was that I couldn't for the life of me imagine being able to hold any sort of concentration throughout sex, let alone orgasm. Saying anything of ritual significance (other than "oh gods, oh, ghh, gods," maybe) would be completely out of the question...

Should you perhaps divide this into two polls by sex?

[identity profile] ri-whittlesey.livejournal.com 2005-03-01 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! Precisely the question that occurred to me. [livejournal.com profile] vvvexation, can you recover the raw respondents' data, and do this retrospectively?

[identity profile] vvvexation.livejournal.com 2005-03-02 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
That was what I planned on, actually. I considered dividing by sex, but decided it was too much hassle given that I'd have had to include at least three gender options and wasn't sure how to phrase the third one.

[identity profile] vvvexation.livejournal.com 2005-03-02 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
See my reply to ri_whittlesey. For what it's worth, though, so far the gender breakdown seems to be about even.

Most of the time, I'd be hard put to it to remember my name.

I can manage to say something at the beginning of an orgasm or stream of orgasms, but its not usually very coherent. More often things like "yes" and "please" and "mmmmm". I recently managed "I love you", which is a whole sentence, coherent, and appropriate. Combined with eye contact.

After an orgasm, I'm even *less* coherent. I manage to say things like "dead" or "mmmmph" on very rare occaision. Oh yeah, and once I managed to use hand signals to convey "please lead me over to a surface I can collapse on" after an unexpected orgasm whilst standing in a friend's dining room.

[identity profile] vvvexation.livejournal.com 2005-03-02 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Dare I ask how that last happened?

[identity profile] tenacious-snail.livejournal.com 2005-03-02 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
well, I am lucky enough to reach orgasm from a wide range of stimuli. The first orgasm I had with one of my partners, we were standing in a pool, holding hands and looking at each other. I have orgasms while *giving* oral sex.

This particular incident involved me standing still, not wearing much in the way of clothing, while two women ran feathers and a fur and velvet glove over my torso, down to about my hips.

Hey, a definition question.

[identity profile] ri-whittlesey.livejournal.com 2005-03-01 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you count it, if you call the beloved's name repeatedly, sometimes loudly, next thing to involuntarily? (That is, it would be possible to stop, but with a great effort that's the last thing one would want to do...)?

I score that as, "Are you kidding?...". But it is a verbal utterance with a definite meaning.

(I can't split hairs in the middle of an orgasm, but I can right now. What conclusion can be drawn?)

Re: Hey, a definition question.

[identity profile] vvvexation.livejournal.com 2005-03-02 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. You know, I'm not sure how to count that. I guess if I had the poll to do over again, I'd add a fourth answer: "I verbalize involuntarily but have no conscious control over it." Meanwhile, I guess the option you picked comes closest.

[identity profile] januslazarus.livejournal.com 2005-03-04 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Umm... do pre-memorized utterances count? What about self-induced orgasms?

[identity profile] vvvexation.livejournal.com 2005-03-04 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Pre-memorized utterances probably fall in between the bottom two choices--as far as I'm concerned it's a matter of how much actual thought they take. As for self-induced orgasms, in my experience the coherence factor isn't really any different. Is it for you?

[identity profile] januslazarus.livejournal.com 2005-03-08 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if it's the amount of thought you're concerned with, then it might help you to know that I was able to come up with a reasonable task on the spot (recite perfect squares starting with 25) and carry it out all the way to 49. Ahh, the lengths I go to for Science. As for your last question, I have no idea.
