Sillier query

There are these SPCA ads I've been seeing in AC Transit buses for quite a while that say, among other things, "Ask about our pit bull service." Can anyone out there tell me what the heck "pit bull service" even is?

I would guess that they "fix" them.

In some way specific to pit bulls?

Perhaps they get another pit bull to bite down on it? Wouldn't work as well for the females, though.

Anyway, what with the current Pit Bull paranoia, and with the fact that, apparently, people are wanting un-neutered pit bulls so they can breed them, I can only presume it's a special outreach campaign of some kind.

I asked the internet, and it wasn't sure about a "Pit Bull Service" but did cough up this link ( http://www.eastbayspca.org/vetservices/pitbullspayneuter.cfm ).

Though I admit that I was having more fun with the idea of an agency renting out pit bulls as guards, butlers, escorts, hit men, etc.

Meh. Should've checked their site myself instead of just vaguely searching the entire intarweb. So, they neuter pit bulls for free because pit bulls are more overpopulous than other breeds? Huh. Wonder why that is.

Dog fighting, most likely.

Another thing "pit bull service" might refer to is the fact that most city/county/etc.-run animal shelters will not adopt out pit bulls, and just put them to sleep if they're not claimed by their owner--because so many of them get used as fighting dogs. So maybe the SPCA doesn't do that.

If you go to an animal shelter in the Bay Area, you'll probably find that most of the dogs are pit bulls or at least look like such, rather than the kinds of 'cute' dogs people are itching to adopt -- so they're trying to stem the tide.
