L'esprit d'escalier
Nov. 8th, 2006 11:12 amLook, lady, if you think you know so much better than I do how to run a polling place, why are you clerking under me instead of volunteering to run a precinct of your own? If you don't want that kind of responsibility, then how about you leave the decision-making to those of us who are willing to undertake it?
And why do I suspect that making the polls run smoothly is in fact not even a goal of yours? Am I completely off-base in assuming that if it were, you'd make polite suggestions to my face instead of criticizing my decisions behind my back?
Of course, that probably explains why you're not volunteering for my job. It's more rewarding for you to act smug about how badly someone else is supposedly doing it than to do it yourself and leave yourself open to the same kind of criticism.
(For what it's worth--not that I think this would change your attitude any--the registrar's office begs to differ with you rather strongly regarding my level of competence.)
