Now that I've got the venting out of my system, I'd like to say that I think it's absolutely awesome how many people on my flist signed up to work the polls this year, and I'm glad you all seem to have had a better time of it than I did.

And I should also note the positive moments of Tuesday. Like, the 18-year-old first-time voter whose mom took scads of pictures. Him signing the register, him feeding his ballot into the scanner, him posing with the sign-in clerk, him posing with the sign-in clerk and his mom...one thing's for sure, if this kid ever gets famous, his biographers are never gonna lack for material. I couldn't keep from laughing; I just hope he realized I was laughing in sympathy.

Then, at the other end of the spectrum, there was the fellow who proudly told us, "I've been voting in this precinct every year for fifty years now--ever since I first became a citizen in 1956." Now that's the kind of dedication we need more of.

There were a lot of really friendly voters, actually. And the precinct coordinator was astoundingly cheerful, and the pastor of the church where we set up was exceedingly accommodating. It's just too bad I didn't get to have them around all day.
