Fortunate?

I had dinner at a Chinese restaurant tonight, and this was my fortune:
Some men dream of fortunes, others dream of cookies.
This may be the silliest fortune I've ever received. In fact I almost feel gypped. Not much of a "fortune," really.
On the other hand, one of my friends wound up with a fortune I remember seeing back in high school, probably the most memorable I've ever gotten: You may attend a party where strange customs prevail. I take great satisfaction in the thought that this fortune, though it took years, eventually came true for me IN SPADES.
A question for my loyal readers: Do you think it's perhaps a leetle inconsiderate to adopt a cat or dog and not notify your housemates beforehand? Does already having one make it okay to acquire another one without prior notice? How 'bout if you're not permanently adopting the critter, but only boarding it while its owners are away or some such--ought you still to let your roommates know that there's going to be an unfamiliar large animal in the house?
