Which states have I been to? I've lived in New York, Nevada and California, and visited Pennsylvania and Hawaii once each. Texas I think doesn't count because I was only there for a few hours and never left the airport.
I defy anyone on my friends list to look me in the eye and tell me they're less traveled than that. Anyone who's been to fewer states than me I'll bet has at least been to a foreign country other than Mexico.

Date: 2004-01-14 09:11 pm (UTC)The first I went to another state beyond that was a bus trip to New Orleans in 96. Then I flew to Florida in 98 (I also don't count airports as visiting a state). I visited Portland in May 2000, and Seattle in December 2000. Then, in Dec 2001/Jan 2002, Geri and I did our 26 States in 30 Days trip. :)
Oh, and my first trip ever to another country was to Vancouver in September of 2003.

Of course, in the Northeast, where states are smaller, it's a lot easier to have been to a whole bunch. One 4-hour trip can take you through quite a handful.
I'd also been to these countries by V's age:
France, Belgium, China, Japan, Russia, Finland, Estonia.
All of those were during high school trips. Japan and Belgium and Finland were travel stopovers; I only got to see about a day's worth of each of them.
-------------
Since then, I've added Canada and Mexico to the countries list, and over my lifetime I've been to all but 14 states. The ones I haven't been to are:
2) Alaska
3) Arkansas
11) Hawaii
16) Kansas
17) Kentucky
19) Maine
23) Minnesota
25) Missouri
29) New Hampshire
34) North Dakota
36) Oklahoma
41) South Dakota
42) Tennessee
49) Wisconsin

Emmett mentions our 26 states in 30 days trip in 2001. New states added during that trip for me were Colorado (we took a wrong turn off the I-80), Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina (9 total). We got photos of all 26 "Welcome to [state]" signs.

Date: 2004-01-14 09:20 pm (UTC)As for me:
Lived: CA
Visited: NM, NV, CO, OR, MD, Wash.DC, VA, NJ
Layover: it was either IL or NY; I was young, and it was for a very short period
Countries: England, Italy, layovers in Amsterdam (for an hour or two)
You win so hard.

Date: 2004-01-15 02:16 am (UTC)I have been to Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Texas.
I have never been to a foreign country (including Mexico or Canada).
I hope to fix this in the next few years, but for now I think I CAN defy you that I am less traveled than you.
Hopefully that means I win a round trip to somewhere nice as a prize ;)
