Tech annoyance

vvvexationMy ancient work machine died yesterday, and so they finally set me up with the new one they've been promising. It's sleek and all, but it's annoying me in little ways. For example, it's fucking with my fonts in a way I can't figure out how to correct. My LiveJournal is showing up in Arial or some such stupid thing instead of the Verdana I know and love, and it's bothering me. It just looks so...cheesy.
I don't think it's a Firefox problem, but in any case I've searched for settings to tweak in both the browser and the computer's control panel, and found nothing that seems to work. I hate to sound like a whiner, but can anyone tell me how to regain control of my goddamn fonts?
