The following thought drifted through my head during lunch today, and it wasn't until a moment later that I realized I'd composed an inadvertent haiku:

The chicken is good--
I should have grabbed more of that
and less of the rice.

(I didn't say it was a particularly interesting thought.)

Is this because you are a poet or a math nerd? Do you count how many of your sentences have a prime number of words and/or syllables?

More, I think, because I'm both. There's this sort of in-between area where you find people playing with the forms of language rather than the more lyrical expressive elements of it--a la Lewis Carroll or the Oulipo folks--and that's where I tend to hang out.

Counting syllables in ordinary sentences, however, would be mind-numbingly dull unless I were afflicted with OCD or possibly autism. It's more my sense of rhythm than my sense of number that tells me things like "ooh, that was a haiku."

Love the haiku. It really captures the moment well, which is what haiku is supposed to do, right?

Since much of my daily thinking (probably most of it) is woven around food, I might as well take your lead and make something creative out of it.

This salad bar rocks -
Why don't they put more tofu
and less cabbage, though?

But vegetarians eat vegetables, right?

The cafeteria where I work actually had dolmas on the salad bar the other day. Not a whole plate's worth, though, so to justify shelling out six bucks for the salad bar I had to fill the rest of my plate with potato salad, which is still sitting in the fridge only half-eaten. I'm gonna be living off it for weeks at this rate.
